Day 7: Asakusa

Tokyo Sky Tree. Opening later in the month.

Imagine if the view if the bloody sakura trees were actually blooming.

People bathing in incense smoke.

This is starting to look familiar.

If I remember correctly this was where in KDO Abe humiliated the guide for giving the wrong info about Raijin and Fuujin.

My type of movie theatre.

Educational movies.

Strip club with 6000\ to enter.

Asahi building.

Ando Natsu makes me want to go through Asakusa trying every Japanese sweet I see. But I imagine most of them taste like mochi and azuki.

Ando Natsu is where I recognize those gates from.

Asakusa seems like a cool place to visit.

How good is Ando Natsu? I`m guessing the name is a play on `and donuts?`. The worst thing about watching food dorama is stomoache growling.

Not great, but I'm a sucker for old style Tokyo shows and Kanjiya Shihori is pretty damn cute.

I think it's a play on an-donuts. Fried dough filled with bean paste (anko).

Ando Natsu is the eponymous main character.

It's a very conventional and inoffensive drama, for better or worse. I'm not certain I would watch it if Shihori Kanjiya wasn't in it.

I just looked at the first episode again, and "an-donuts" seems to be the pun. I thought it was just "d┼Źnatsu," since that's the Japanese for donut. Maybe they make that pun too, I don't remember.

My backlog is going to get even bigger when I get back. Can`t think of a Kanjiya Shihori performance that impressed me but neither do I remember anything bad. She`s usually the supporting character.

I`ll probably try out the 1st episode to see how she is as the main actress.

I decided to start rewatching Ando Natsu, because why not. It's much better than I remembered, but some parts are painfully saccharine, and I'm not referring to the sweets. I also forgot the soundtrack is sometimes really good.

Kanjiya is not really an "impressive" actress (in part because she sticks to a narrow comfort zone), but she's always good, and makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. I may be very biased, but I think she does a fine job in Ando Natsu. One of her best performances is in Hanayome no Chichi, which also takes place in Asakusa (partially).
