Fellowship of 419 episode IV: Attack of Planaterion pt 2

Update: ooops, must have made a spelling mistake googling planetarion. (I think i typed Planetarian) The game is alive and well and is so much more complex than b4. (game.planetarion.com) They have 4 races now and tons of tech stuff to research. I think they are in their 15th round. Its now free to play though paying gets u extra stuff. Must ignore tempation......

For those who are really bored, grab a couple of friends to sign up and I guarantee u tons of excitement and lack of sleep for the next few months.

Stuck in my old 15 gig hd and managed to find a couple of Planetarion reports!

This is the only battle report I managed to find and judging from the lack of hostile forces and huge amounts of salvage, it seems to be from the final hour of battle. Every type of ship served a different purpose and countered specific ships. Guess which is my planet? (hint: goes together with Akira)

Here is an example of the hostile forces we face everyday. Of course red means enemy ships and green are friendlies. One bug in Planetarion that Kv found was that the number of roids (farms) that one gets is more the smaller your fleet was. So what we did if we did not have enough defence was to 'roid' each other and minimise losses.

We would be sitting in front of our screens, refreshing the page every so often; looking for additional hostiles while salivating at the thought of the carnage to come.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the beginning we joined the smaller alliance, PA-21 against the bigger one. We participated in their raids as well. You'll log in to their page, see whatever galaxy they want to attack and put your name down. Somewhere down the line, Kv made friends with people and the bigger alliance so we were privy to the going ons of both sides and we even went so far as to attack galaxies from each alliance.

One of the funniest incidents was when the leaders of PA-21 led an attack on some of our 'rouge planets' for attacking fellow members. Nevertheless, we sent help and the clueless leader messaged us that this was alliance business and to not protect our galaxy mates. Friends are for ever and alliances are made to be broken.

Forgot to mention that Yc also had an account though he only played when we needed help with deploying defences. Having an hour to calculate defences, deploy and ask for additional help can be very stressful.

Planetarion was my first experience with politics in an online game. Because it was online, its easier to make friends, backstab them and spy on people. However, being on alert 24 hours a day for something like 3/4 months was tiring and I made a vow never to play any ongoing online game ever again.

Fellowship of 419 ep III: Invasion of Planetarion pt 1

In the beginning, two members of 419 NiGHTs and Kv were engrossed in the web-based online game Utopia. The best thing about the game was that it only required the player to log on at most an hour a day to do reasonably well.

Then one day, Kv suggested that NiGHTs and Akiramike get into this new web-based game called Planetarion. For those unfamiliar with web based games, you basically create an account and play for whatever duration a 'season' might be. In the case of planetarian, you basically create a planet, with something like 11 other planets in the same system. There are hundreds of systems in the same galaxy and probably something like 20 or more galaxies in the whole game. Kv even recruited some of his friends from Malaysia to play and we got into the same system.

Anyway, you start off by deciding which buildings to build and and which tech-tree and units to go for, similar to any RTS like Starcraft or Command and Conquer.

Now, the main difference between Planaterian and other web-based games is that everything truly happens in real time. You are alerted when a hostile fleet is sighted coming your planet/system. It takes about 9 hours in real time for the attacking fleet to reach depending on your location. If the enemy is from a different system or galaxy it would take a bit longer and of course, ships from your own system take something like 2-3 hours.

Furthermore, the game allowed fleets to attack or defend together. The attacking force is definitely going to be much more powerful than ur defence so one always needed to ask for help, which was hell for us.

Usually we would get attacked early in the morning while is when Europeans (who constitute a huge number of players) go to sleep/think people are sleeping. We would spend the whole morning going on icq/irc and alliance forums organising defences and pleading for help. Hopefully the battle would happen in the afternoon, unless the server lagged.

Battles lasted for 3 hours/rounds and we were always waiting, hoping that the attacking fleet would not pull out so we can inflict lots of damage and gain lots of salvage. We also had to message allies that the attackers had gone and thank them.

Sometimes, people would be smart and launch attacks in mutiple waves. Not only did we have to make sure that there would be defence for however many rounds there was need, we had to calculate there was adequate defence and out allies would not be wiped out.

Example of typical planetarion day:

Akiramike: Kv, NiGHTs, wake up! WE'RE UNDER ATTACK!

Everyone rushes to the pc to find a huge wave of attackers.

Kv: Mike, you go calculate what defence we need, me and NiGHTs will go asking for help.

One hour later.....

Akiramike: fuck, we got new incoming fleet. And they just pulled out of attacking xx:xxx:xx (planet coordinates) Tell our help for xx to pull out and see if they can resend to xx2. And we need 500 more spiders for the following planets.

We'd have a piece of paper with attacker ships types so we could calculate how much and what type of ships we needed for defence.

NiGHTs: I got tons of defence for mine. I'm going to roast those bastards alive.

Kv: We've gotta abandon the defence for the smaller planets and concentrate on the bigger ones.

Akiramike: shit, its already been an hour and the round hasn't moved yet. Stupid laggy server.

Kv: Damn, I just realised that I haven't eaten for the whole day......

Our theme song during this Planetarion era was 'I will survive'. The lyrics really spoke of our kiasuness (unwillingness to lose) in defending our system from overwhelming attacks everyday. A lot of times, we would be half dead in front of our pcs just hoping that another wave was not coming. Someone had to be awake at any time of the day cause one lost hour could mean a huge loss. Despite all our hardships, after every succesful defence we would play 'I will survive' at full blast, sit down to cigarettes and coke and laugh at all our salvage.

Of course, it didn't mean that we did not attack. There were two main alliances in our galaxy at that time. One was an alliance of the powerful systems and one of the weaker ones. Little did we know that we would be playing both of them...........

5 reasons to watch Ganbatte Ikimashoi

WARNING: The following post contains some sexual innuendo and suggestive themes. Do not read if you don't have pubic hair yet.

1) 1st, we have our cute girl. Not sure about her name (wikipedia down) but I think its Aibu Saki. The pic doesn't do her justice. She looks like those JAV actresses pretending to be underage girls. Not that I like to watch JAV, I just do it to.... uh, improve my Japanese. But she's definitely kawaii in the show.

2) Okay, so Suzuki Anne isn't that hot, but she's a very good actress and and can be pretty cute.

She looks somewhat like Namie Amuro so I'll call her that.

3) Not sure of name. She plays Suzuki Anne's best fren. I dun like doing club activities either, I prefer doing her.

4) The forever hot Ishida Yuriko. I wonder what she could be talking about? Something that requires aggressive use of hands on something hard enough to cause blisters and her hot body to ache. Whatever its is, I don't mind her doing it to me.........

5) And the new antogonist only shown at the end of ep 2. She looks like she wants to do something evil to the girls....

And now for my rewrite of the climax of ep 2............

Namie Amuro confesses her love to Suzuki Anne and Anne-chan gets teary-eyed. Everyone goes 'aaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwww'............

They gazed into each other's eyes while the audience yells: Kiss! Kiss! Kiss! Seriously, what is hotter than two hot chicks making out? Two hot chicks in schoolgirl uniforms making out.

Suzuki Anne makes her move, grabbing Namie Amuro's hand and ass. Damn, stupid bag blocking the panty view.

Suzuki Anne, quickly realising that her best friend and camera is watching, moves her hand away from Namie Amuro's ass and realises that Namie Amuro is not wearing a bra. Yes, I know there's no way she could tell through the jacket but who said dramas had to make sense.

Suzuki Anne's best friends feels left out from all the touching. Oh, how sad. The best friend proceeded to go to look for Akiramike for consolation. The censors did not OK the scene where they met so I don't have screenshots to show you.

In typical jdorama fashion, Suzuki Anne was two timing Namie Amuro and asked the cute girl to do some physical activity together. Suzuki Anne assured the girl that she would be gentle on her.

Avatarstormbringer asked if this was a Sailor Moon type show. Its about rowing, so we get to see the girls get wet. Fellowship of 419 pt 3 will continue soon.............

ai nante, iraneeyo, natsu

Damn, just watched eps 3-5 and its so fucking good. Watabe Atsuro is a scheming bastard but no man can can stand the kawaiiness of Hirosue Ryoko. Her potrayal of the blind 'sister' is so pitiful that you have no choice but to say kawaii so........ Its fun to see Morimoto Leo play a bad guy from his usual kind uncle type roles. I'm interested to see whether he can inject some venom into his character towards the end.

Really enjoy the tension and everything seems to be moving faster now. Of course a jdorama is only as good as its final eps so it'll be interesting to see how everything turns out. Hirosue Ryoko has the best lines in this series.

best quote from ep 5 : Kamisama wa zankoku, chigau yo. Kami sama wa inai dake. (God is not cruel, there is no God.)

Fellowship of 419 pt 2: to john (verb)

Now as the fellowship was slowly getting together, a simple ritual became the cornerstone of the fellowship: Friday night, six thirty in front of Nike. Unfortunately, some of the members of the fellowship were I.S. (information systems) people and they all had one similar characteristic: they were always late. To have an I.S. member turn up on time was like the sun rising in the west or the sky falling on our heads.

To have the fellowship be all there at 6.40 would be a good thing. Sometimes, it would be 6.45 of even 7pm. Even when gathered, the fellowship had trouble deciding where to have their feast. To help combat these two problems, the non I.S. members of the fellowship decided to institute a rule: last one to arrive at the designated checkpoint had to decide where the feast was to be held. Alas, this rule proved ineffective as the answer would always be Nam Long 2.

Later, the fellowship instituted the 'if half an hour late, u have to buy everyone dinner rule'. Unfortunately, there was a lack of observance of the rule. If we had used violence to enforce it, we would have had less people in the fellowship.

However, there was another member of the fellowship who was always late and he was not an IS fellow. His name was John. (name may have been changed to protect the innocent) John would so often be very late and even frequently ffk (not turn up) that to ffk the fellowship became known as to john.

Example of typical conversation:

Akiramike: John seems late as usual.

Druggy: Usual lar. His name is John. We should expect to get johned by John.

Pipboy: Well, if John didn't john us then his name cannot be John, can it?

disclaimer: This dialogue may not have happened in the exact way, but it did happen.

Little did we know that the name John had other meanings as well.

In the game of CS, camping was of utmost importance but depended on the circumstances depending on one's objective. If one's mission was to plant a bomb or rescue hostages, then the strategy would be to rush as soon as possible to one of the bomb sites or where the hostages were. The maps in CS were such that there were many paths for the offensive team to take while the defensive team had to spread themselves and communicate where the offensive team was coming from.

Now John loved hiding behind boxes. Nothing wrong with that. But John loved hiding behind boxes so much that even when his teammate(s) was getting shot close to him he would stay as silent as a mouse. Even when his teammate(s) had died and the killers were reloading he would still stayed crouch down behind the box still hoping the killers would walk past him.

The conventional wisdom of coming out when ur teammate(s) was getting shot is to give your enemies another target. Hopefully they would pull the crosshair away from your teammate. Even if they did not, hopefully there were wasting preicious seconds killing ur teammate while you were getting free shots. In addition, they would have wasted at least half their bullets by then.

It never got to the point of calling taking a shit behind a box to john. However, if John's team was on the losing end, 99.9% of the time he would be the lone survivor, still at the same place always.

disclaimer: The author bears no malice to John (name changed to protect the innocent, maybe) and is not doing this to bismirch his good name. 'cough' The author has tried to maintain historical accuracy with consultation with former members of the fellowship of 419.

Fellowship of 419: The Birth of the Fellowship

Long, long ago in ages past when Akiramike had long hair, he was fighting the forces of boredom by playing lots of KOF. However, one fateful day he moved into a land called 419qb and was never threatened by boredom again. The land of 419 was initially inhabited by other beings known as NiGHTs, Kv and Yc. Kv was looking for greener pastures after pillaging the last village and NiGHTs had just left his homeland.

Things started slowly in 419 until on day, KV introduced one of the greatest weapons ever against boredom to Akiramike and his friends John and Leek. It was called Counter-strike. Akiramike had played Doom and Duke Nukem before but this was the first time he was playing against other beings, and he was getting his butt kicked. Then KV introduced one of the most basic elements of warefare to Akiramike and John: camping!

Akiramike and John crouched on opposite stairs in CS_Office and waited for innocent Counter-terrorists to walk pass before riddling their body with bullets. It gave Akiramike a great feeling. A feeling of power and guilt in using such tactics. But it felt good nevertheless and so addiction to CS was born.

Soon 419 embraced the game known as CS except for subborn YC who was adamant in playing only Half-Life. But soon, he succembed to the exhiliration of getting headshots and knifing people in the back.

Somewhere down the line, the members of 419 met their extended members and the fellowship of 419 was born:

Druggy (formerly known as Stealth Camper) - Like his past namesake, Druggy would kill people who by sheilding his evil presence. He had an innocent face but underneath it was the bloodlust of a beserker orc and the spitefulness of a adrena-ling.

AvatarStormbringer - The eternal enemy of Druggy. Avatar and Druggy were like dwarves and elves; forever bickering to the amusement of all.

Pipboy - He who could always be counted to cover your back or die for the greater good of the team.

John - The name John has come to mean many things in the adventures of 419, which shall be revealed.......

YC - master of evil laughter.

NiGHTs - The ultimate sniper/Desert Eagle user. One is never guaranteed victory against him even with a 4-1 numerical advantage.

KV - the veteran and resident evil genius.

Akiramike.

Together, 419 played countless hours of fragging and even at one point was playing from night until morning, never lacking in bloodlust and eager friends/enemies. In the beginning 419 struggled to get their frags (kills) to 50% of their deaths. Later, they could get 1:1 frag/kill ratios and then started aiming for at least 1.5 to 1. The CS scene had just started growing and it was good. Friendly fire was one. Maps were changing every half hour or hour and 419 learned every map there was. No one forsaw the damage that over-popularity would do to CS.

Neither did 419 forsee that the initials SC would change their lives forever....................

Stay tuned for the next chapter in the saga of 419. Same blog, same http address and whenever Akiramike feels like updating his blog.

Reviews

Rating system:

Dun watch
Average (Only watch if you have nothing to do)
Watchable (Nothing special but enjoyed it for various reasons, eg: kawaii actresses)
Good
Must watch before you die

Dramas

Sekai No chuushin de, ai wo sakebu

Finally finished the drama. The first six episodes were really good but was really slow on the last 5. I have no idea why they took out the twist from the movie. It would have made the pacing for the second half much better. Its hard to rate this drama as the two halves are so completely different in pacing but in the end I'd say it was watchable.

Ai nante, iraneeyo, natsu ep 1+2

Another Hirosue Ryoko drama to add to my collection. She plays a blind girl who's rich father has just died and Watabe Atsuro plays a former club host (ie where women go to be entertained by men) who masquerades as her long lost brother who is dead.

I read that the ratings were bad and I assume that because most people were expecting a more light hearted show. However the show is far from light hearted/anime like. Its dark, moody and brooding which hopefully means there's going to be some nice twists.

'spoiler - highlight to read'

Love the scene where Watabe Atsuro is contemplating pushing Hirosue Ryoko into the path of the incoming train. You know he won't do it cause she's the main actress but the tension was great. Then her, turning around with tears in her eyes saying 'onichan, kill me' was a great way to end the episode.

Did she know he was planning to kill her or was it because she just wanted to end her existence? Can't wait to get the next ep!

'spoiler end'

Unfortunately, there are no english subs and the dialogue is a bit complex. Managed to get the gist of the story but half of the dialogue is lost to me.

Rating: so far very watchable.

H2 ep 8

Ishihara Satomi (picture at top) is soooooooo kawaii and Ichikawa Yui is hot. How does Japan keep producing one super kawaii actress after another? Is it the food? Genes? Weather? Or does the jdorama industry have some super lighting to magnify kawaiiness. Maybe after so many years of anime, somehow the new generation of Japanese actresses/idols are even more kawaii than those animated characters.

Besides the chicks, what I enjoyed about the drama is that it manages to translate the 'sweetness' and atmosphere of the manga into drama form. The only thing missing is the lack of fan service. Come on, even Stand Up! had a good amount of panty shots!

Movies

A letter from an unknown woman (http://imdb.com/title/tt0424234/)

This old fella receives a letter written by a woman who claims to have loved him all her life and somehow he doesn't even know her. Interesting premises but story ultimately is uninspiring. I just felt no sympathy for either characters. The production values are great and I enjoyed the potrayal of life in China before the cultural revolution. Very average movie but still better than your general HK movie crap.

Chichi to Kuraseba (http://imdb.com/title/tt0419634/)

This is the first time I've seen a movie shot like a stage play but what a great movie. The movie is about the relationship between father and daughter set in the aftermath of the hiroshima bombings.

Yoshio Harada does a great job especially the when he tells the story of the small warrior in the oni's stomach. My only criticism would that that Miyazawa Rie's performance is a bit too subtle. Theater is different from movies in that there are no close ups and subtle changes in expression are harder to notice. I really applaud the makers of this movie for shooting it in a theatre style. Although it looks more 'fake' the emotions and metaphors are more 'real'. Good movie.

It had to be you

Another bad HK movie trying to copy Korean romance films. The script is atrociously bad. (why am I not surprised) Dun watch.

Battered wrestling fans syndrome

In the 80s Hulk Hogan was hot. He even had his own cartoon series. As a kid I enjoyed the larger than life character of Hogan, Macho Man and The Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase. In those days, wrestling on tv featured big name wrestlers wrestling jobbers. (losers) and told the world that wrestling was 'real'. I remember an article in the local paper interviewing Sergeant Slaughter (who was in the GI Joe animated movie) whether wrestling was fixed. He replied that it wasn't when he was there in the WWF and I believed it. After all, Hogan fought Macho Man Randy Savage over Ms Elizebeth until he was bleeding. But I still had nagging doubts. A dropkick on the chest should be enough to knock the wind completely out of anyone and yet they were able to get up and continue.

Some time later, I was watching a Bushwhackers match (if I remember correctly) that I finally realised that wrestling was fake. I remember the it was obvious that the jobbers were 'assisting' the Bushwhackers in their getting beat up.

So for many years, I stopped watching wrestling. Then my family got satelite tv and I saw this guy called The Rock feuding with Stone Cold Steve Austin over the Intercontinental title. Yeah wrestling was still 'fake' but man these two people were damn entertaining. I don't even remember who was feuding over the championship.

So I resumed watching wrestling for the larger than life characters. Wrestling during this time still sucked. Lots of punch, kick and sleeper holds but Rock and Austin more than made up for it.

Somewhere down the line came a wrestler by the name of Kurt Angle who was a heel (bad guy). I remember a match between Austin and Angle and I was expecting Angle to job (lose) real quick to Austin. But surprisingly they put on a really good wrestling match. Austin always just punch-kicks-Lou Thesz Press etc but this time they were trading moves and holds.

It was after this match that I realised wrestling was art. It was like watching Jackie Chan or Jet Li except it was live. It was about pacing, psychology, matching move for move and telling a story.

Then I started looking up wrestling news/forums online and started downloading good matches, especially Japan and really became hooked on wrestling. Not because of larger than life characters but because of wrestlers who could really work.

Most hardcore wrestling fans watch it for the wrestling and the general public just likes the characters. Wrestling is still not respected as an art like kung-fu or stage plays are.

Unfortunately for western wrestling fans, wrestling is in a funk. The main supply of wrestling comes from the WWE and Vince McMahon has a fetish for big guys who can't wrestle. They have damn good wrestlers and they dun let them have the freedom to put on a good 15-20 minute match. Most of the time on pay-per-views they have a great match and the rest are just boring.

Anyway, what is battered wrestling fans syndrome? Its the same as battered wife syndrome. The wife keeps getting beat up by her husband but for various reasons can't leave the relationship. Lifewise, wrestling fans are treated to bad stories, crappy matches and wrestlers who don't even deserve to be in the ring but we keep tuning in the hope of seeing a great match. We watch wrestler who can actually wrestle never/hardly given a chance to show people what they can do while WWE wastes valuable air time on stupid things like a 'Diva Search'.

But like fools searching for gold, we continue watching hoping to see a small nugget once in a while.

True Story/ Kisah Benar

Two days ago a friend of mine was near a playground. To protect the innocent, my friend shall be unnamed. (let's call him KTS) Anyways, KTS was minding his own business when a girl approached him and wanted to play with his ball. Since there were two balls and he was only playing with one, he said sure.

The girl took his ball and bounced it around, sometimes with her right hand, sometime with her left hand and sometimes with both. She wasn't that proficient at playing his ball but she was very enthusiastic. KTS was wondering why a girl would come to the playground by her lonesome and play his ball. Usually they'll come with a friend or two. Maybe she wanted to release stress. Maybe she was hoping he'll give her his phone no. Maybe she was stalking him.

Said girl handled KTS's ball for like 10-15 minutes before she decided to take off her sweater and continued playing. It seems that she got pretty warmed up playing KTS's ball and might even be sweating. When she had enough, she said thanks, returned his basketball and walked off.

Jdorama reviews and STOP BLAMING MONEY!!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Slow Dance ep1

Somehow this show reminds me of Orange Days in the sense that Orange Days was about Uni Life and Slow Dance is about work life. Fukatsu Eri is playing the same role in Seukko chounan ane san nin = 30 something woman deciding between work and marriage. I have a feeling she's going to be typecast in this type of role until she turns 40! lol.

Speaking about 30 something women, when are we going to see another drama with older guy and much younger chick. The last one I remember watching was Koukou Kyoushi 2k3. Are the Japanese trying to counter-balance the national obsession with lolitas and schoolgirls by bombarding their tv with the message that older women are better?

They should be proud of their fascination with youth. It nothing to be ashamed off. Younger girls are attractive. They have to aura of 'innocence' which of course in today's society doesn't exist but who give a damn. Fantasy is better than reality and reality is but a perception and our perception of things is influenced by what we want to see. So bring on jdramas about fathers who fall in love with their daughter's classmates. Bring on stories about a 40 year old single dad being persued by two 20 year old women.

Its great seeing Hirosue Ryoko on the small screen again but its such a waste that her character has so little screen time. She's not one of those hot looking actresses who are fit only to play the best friend part. She's the one who blew away Uchiyama Rina in Moto Kare and deserved every award on the planet for Himitsu. Somehow, she's not so hot when she's playing the token supporting character with so little lines. Fingers crossed they get into her character more but I doubt it.

Its too early to judge how good Slow Dance is going to be but I just have a feeling its going to be like Orange Days - good production, decent pacing but ultimately nothing exciting.

Koi ni Ochitara

Watched ep 8-11 without subs. Couldn't wait to see what happens. This series started off slow and seemed like your typical poor man-rich man drama until the middle where things started to pick up. The storyline went in an interesting direction and had an ending sequence that everyone wanted to see, though I was expecting something more grand in the end. Nevertheless, a pretty good drama. Kusanagi Tsuyoshi was good and Yamamato Koji was great in his supporting role. (His performance as Hijikata was truly great) The funny thing is why Tsuyoshi is paired up with another actress who is obviously taller than him. (Matsushita Nao in this one and of course Fujiwara Norika in Staa no Koi)

Engine

I have a dislike for jdramas featuring lots of kids cause there will always be the fat kid and over-sentimental stories about the kids' background. They should make it a quota of maximum to kids per jdrama.

That said, Engine was enjoyable. KimuTaku is his usual kakoi self. Koyuki doesn't turn me on. The best thing for me was Euno Juri. Having seen Swing Girls, IMO Euno Juri is a pretty good actress and definitely deserves bigger roles. The real lack down is the lack of racing stuff despite the drama being called engine and the really boring race in the final ep.

Yeah, filming racing scenes is expensive but they certainly could have done a much better job. Its more a drama about orphans than about racing. Final verdict - some of the eps are good, girls are pleasing to the eyes, kids are cute (wtf did they have to put a fat kid in there!) but we've seen it all b4, just not with so many kids. Above average and worth watching but don't get your expectations up.

Money is the key to Happiness

Speaking of Koi ni Ochitara, I'm sick and tired by all this propoganda that money does not buy happiness. I mean, every time we buy something we get a little but of happiness. If I had the money to get a 1.5mbit connection and new HD, I would be happier than I am now. Therefore if little extra money can give us more happiness then definitely a lot more money would get us more happiness.

Some would argue that money does not buy friends and good family. Well, would poverty do it? Definitely not. Money buys respects. Money gives us the time and ability to enjoy life with friends and family. Money allows people to live in comfort. Of course having more money does not guarantee happiness but it certainly allows you to get more than if you were poor.

All this bullshit about how money is not important is perpetuated by the rich and powerful to keep us poor masses content while they control all the wealth and live in excess. They point to the rich and powerful who seem to experience lots of divorces and scandals. As if the poor and middle class people don't experience that as well. At least when the rich divorce, they've got enough money to split up and to take care of the kids.

Money does not cause unhappiness. Yeah people fight over money and families can be torn apart just by fighting over inheritance but the cause of that is greed and unwillingness to share/comprimise. Don't blame money. Blame the people. When people are unhappy, they like to blame anything else but themselves. So they blame money. Money can't talk back. Money can't say 'hey its because you're a greedy sob or its because you can't communicate properly with your wife'. Money is the innocent victim of this stupid propoganda.

STOP BLAMING MONEY

Who wouldn't want to be rich? Anyone who doesn't is lying and they know it. Of course, this is tempered by the question - how much effort do you want to put in for how much money? For me its minimum effort for maximum result which means I'll never be rich. But it doesn't mean I can't dream about winning the lottery.

Densha Otoko

Just watched 1st ep of Densha  Otoko. Surprisingly its only the 2nd show that I've seen about Otakus. The first being the funny Koi No Mon (Otakus in love). Really excellent 1st episode. Its really interesting to see the otaku culture in Japan and the Japanese perception of what it is. (which isn't all that different from non-Japanese perception, ie single guys who like anime characters, play video games and go to cosplay-theme clubs) Though Koi No Mon is about a girl who likes to cosplay. :)

It'll be interesting to see a show about an ugly duckling female otaku who uses shoujo mangas as the basis for getting guys. Suzuki Anne would be perfect for it, considering her performance in Stand Up!

FYI the show is about this otaku who saves this really hot Misaki Itoh in a train and gets advice from people on the net on how to pursue her. The advisors feature a variety of stereotypes who each seem to have a story/problem. Of course the show features lots of bijin actresses including Shiraishi Miho. Hope to see more anime references. Can't wait for next ep!

Smokers are people too.

In 2007 the Victorian government is going to ban all smoking in pubs which IMO is due to the pressure by those idiots in the anti-smoking lobby. Yes, everyone knows that smoking increases the chance of getting cancer and smells but for God's sake, banning smoking while you drink?

Where the hell are the rights of people to smoke when they drink? If the government is so concerned about protecting the public from the harmful effects of smoking, then why don't they limit the number of indoor smoking places. People have a right to smoke just as people have a right to eat unhealthy food and not excercise. If you don't like to inhale smoke, then go to a non-smoking pub and drink your beer.

Smokers are a minority and our rights are getting weakened. We're not asking for the right to blow smoke in non-smokers' faces. All we're asking for it a place besides out own homes to have a beer and fag. Look at all those poor office people forced to smoke in alleyways in the middle of winter. I mean companies should at least provide a smoking room for people to relax instead of having them take the long elavator ride and have them stand in the cold.

An employee smoking is the same as an employee having a coffee break. Just because smoking is bad for health unlike caffiene, (not the sarcasm) smokers are treated like dirt in society. And every year one tax that always goes up is cigarette taxes. And we can't complain cause smoking is bad for health and such it is 'ethical' for the government to do it.

Of course, not a non-smokers are bad. Its those righteous zeolots who think they are so holy because they don't smoke. Its like those bigots who think are they are so good because they go to church. Being a smoker does not make one a bad person. Yes, smokers don't care for their health as much but tell that to the millions of overweight and non-exercising people out there.

I have a dream.... that one day, smokers and non-smokers can co-exist peacefully. That people can choose to go to a smoking or non-smoking pub. That employees don't need to stand out in the cold to smoke while their caffiene in the warmth of their offices. That people recognise cigarette pays a lot of taxes to the government and that there's nothing wrong with taxpaying smokers getting medical benefits.

There were some calls for naked pictures of Katie Holmes from some readers of hamsapsukebe but unfortunately I have non in my possession. Instead I present something more hypnotic....

FREE KATIE HOLMES

I have no idea why the world cares so much about Katie Holmes except that she is hot. They're even made t-shirts and stuff :

http://www.cafepress.com/mccam/628896

Why all this uproar now? I mean Tom Cruise was married to Nicole Kidman for a pretty long time, right. Probably cause Mr Cuise has finally showed the world that he is insane. Maybe he's too giddy that he has a gf that can pass of as a schoolgirl. Maybe if I could do Katie Holmes every night I would be jumping up and down Oprah's sofa. Who knows.

Maybe he has a fetish for Batman's girlfriends? After all Nicole Kidman was in the god awful Batman Forever and Katie Holmes is probably the only woman every to bitch-slap Batman and get away with it?

Nevertheless the world believes that Ms Holmes is not a raving lunatic so there is no way she would believe in a religion started by a sci-fi writer. I mean, this is a religion that says some alien named Xenu has infested us human or thetans as the scientologists call them with invisible spirits depriving us of our 'god-like' powers.

Christians blame the bad stuff on the devil and scientologists blame it on aliens. I wonder which is more plausible. I wonder whether scientologists do exorcisms. Maybe Katie has been possessed by alien using her to infiltrate scientology and sabotage mankind's final defence against aliens!

Scientologists believe that we have past lives and scientology can get back the 'recording' of our past lives. For more info on scientology check out: http://www.xenu.net/index.html

Actually Xenu died something like 10 years ago. Yup, his race of aliense was defeated by another race called the Zerg. The Zerg had a collective consciousness called the 'overmind' so Xenu was not able to infect them. The Zerg wanted Xenu's technology to use in their war against the Protoss and they don't give shit about planet earth.

Since the threat to humankind has been defeated, there is nothing for scientology to protect us from. Actually, I just got an email from lord Tassadar of the Protoss telling me that the Zerg are going to infiltrate human society. The sign of a Zerg possessed human is a grey haired old guy who can't even speak coherant english and likes to wage war on other countries in the name or 'freedom' and 'democracy'. After the Zerg have conquered a country, installed their puppet ruler and gotten control of their oil pipes, they just leave it even with warlords still fighting and 'demoracry' inexistant. 'cough' Afghanistan 'cough'

To combat the Zerg, I am going to start Michaelogy which will prevent the Zerg from taking over our bodies. Tassadar tells me that as long as we drink Coke and smoke a packet of Marlboro/Dunhill reds a day, the Zerg cannot enter our bodies. So remember boys and girls, coke and a packet a day, keep the evil zerg away! And you don't even need to give me any money to a Michaelogist!

Hirosue Ryoko is back and 1 on 1 in NBA

Yes! Slow dance ep 1 is out! Hope someone will sub the series! Too bad she's playing supporting character to Fukatsu Eri but Ryoko-san in a supporting role is better than no Ryoko at all. Problems is that I'm still slowly catching up on my dramas. Even had to give up on some jmovies eg Jam Films S with Ishihara Satomi.... :( Sigh, one can never have enough bandwidth. WTF is a 512/512 in Oz as expensive as a 1.5/256.

Chris Anstey challenged Andrew Bogut to a 1 on 1. Lol! Only Oz would be interested in such a match-up. Maybe the NBA should do a 1 on 1 tournament in the off-season. Let the players cut promos to the media and come out with entrance music and video like wrestling. They could even have a championship belt.

Anstey: I'm going to take you to the learning tree kid cause your mouth has been writing cheques that your body can't cash in...

Bogut: I'm the no.1 draft pick. I am the game-uh and I am that damn good-uh!

Anstey: Shut your mouth and know your role! I'm going to smackdown the ball on your head and beat your roody poo candy ass. I'm going to take the Spalding ball, shine it really nice, turn it up sideways and stick it....

Bogut: Will you please shut the hell up! You're just scared of me cause I got the 3 I's. Intelligence, intensity and the balls to Insult all Australians. Next on my list is the pretty boy Ian Thorpe. Oh, its true, its true.

Anstey: You obviously have not been taking your vitamins and saying your prayers. What you gonna do brother, when Ansteymania runs wild on you! Anstey proceeds to do the Hulk Hogan cup the ear thingie and the crowd remains silent. Anstey then does the Hogan flex poses and it was so quiet you could hear Phil Jackson doing Jeanie Buss in the excutive toilet.

The 1 on 1 match proceeds to the last point when Bogut 'accidentally' knocks out a referee. Two replacement referees come out and argue over who should officiate the match. Luc Longley does a run in and low blows Bogut.

ESPN sends Rasheed and Ben Wallace out with old school Undertaker music cause the ratings suck and they beat the crap out of Anstey and Bogut and then they proceed to cut a promo challenging NBA tag-team champions Amare Stoudamire and Steve Nash to a championship match.

Umemiya Masako

I was looking around for Umemiya Masako pics (the mistress in Golden Bowl) when I realised that there are no pics which can do her justice. Even the pictures in her photobooks aren't that good. She was sooooooo hot in Golden Bowl that any man in Kaneshiro Takeshi's shoes would have fallen into the pool as well. And why the hell is she doing Kamen Rider goddammit. She should be in jdramas and movies. Bloody kids won't appreciate how hot she is. Maybe its just an excuse to get the dads to allow their kids to watch Kamen Rider on the condition that they tape it so dad can watch it when he finishes work.

Scene in Japanese household:

wife: anata, come to bed.

husband: not right now. I'm watching kamen rider.

wife: wtf. Just because I stopped you watching schoolgirl AV doesn't mean you should watch kids shows!

husband: No. I just want to know what kids are watching these days so I can better communicate with my kid. (Umemiya Masako...... kirei.......) Can we role play tonight? I'll be kamen rider and you be Umemiya Masako!

Wife starts ringing her lawyer..............

Many japanese actresses/idols/gravure idols look so much hotter on the screen than in still pictures. Take another example one of my faves, Takeuchi (why did u have to get married) Yuko. She's not that hot looking but she was so fine in Pride.

Yar, Ogura Yuko looks cute in her pics but nothing can prepare any man for kawaiiness when she talks. She sings so badly/dances so clumsily that it triggers the male brain to scream 'sugoku kawaii!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'

On the other hand you have Fukada Kyoko who looks good in pictures but is crap on screen. Maybe the beauty of these Japanese godesses are to great to be captured on a single frame.

Sekachu ep 10

Sekachu dorama (sekai no chuushin de, ai wo sakebu) is really slowing down. With such great 6 first episodes, the later eps are so slow that I basically fast forwarded ep 10. Only one thing happens in ep 10 and they spent the whole 45 minutes leading up and doing it. There were no side stories to keep the pace of the story.

Side stories/supporting characters are the golden rule that makes doramas watchable for 10-12 eps. Of course those long HK/K series would require more fleshed out side stories and twists and turns (however illogical) to keep up the pacing.

One of the most important elements of making a drama series watchable is pacing, ie a few things happen in every episode that moves the story along. If the main story does not advance much in an episode, it is the job of the side story to fill in the gaps and keep the audience watching. One of my favs ever, Yamato Nadeshiko has a great ensemble of supporting characters and side stories that enhance and push the main story forward.

Of course I can appreciate that dramas with consistent pacing throughout the series are rare and the first few eps are crucial in getting ppl to tune in to the story. Maybe the end of a series usually gets the highest ratings that they tend to stretch them. IMO, if there is not enough material to make the pacing consistent, it is better for a series to start of slow and start accelerate towards the end. Of course it would make less sense in terms of drawing an audience but it would certainly make the overall quality much better.

An anology would be the difference between the generic WWE style and japanese style wrestling. WWE style starts with some nice, energetic spots before it becomes a long sequence of headlocks/restholds , boring heel (bad-guy) tactics while waiting for the face (good guy) to make his comeback into the finishing sequence. Japanese style wrestling starts of really slow. Lots of submission moves, slowing building up spots, then mid way really starts to pick up and steamroll non-stop (ie no stupid rest holds) into the finishing sequence.

The mid and ending of a story is much more important than the beginnng because the climax and building up of it is what makes and breaks a story.

Since Sekachu is adapted from the movie/book, they should have done what they did with the first 6 eps, lots of side stories and character development stuff. Now nearing the end, there is not much character development/side character stuff to do. They should have really made it like 9/10 eps and the pacing would have been so much better. Sigh. And I was pretty sure that this was going into my top 10.

Now listening to Hinoi Team's 'Ike Ike'. Its a Vengaboys rip off song but god-damned its addictive. I predict I'll probably get sick of it in a few more days, like all Vengaboys songs. They should make a sequal called 'Iku Iku'. :)

Bogut is going to get posterised and why Steve Nash is God.

Andrew Bogut, the no.1 NBA draft pick made some disparaging remarks about Australians who have been to the NBA, especially Luc Longley. I'm no Longley fan. He wasn't a dominated centre nor did he have a post up game. But he could pass well and could shoot a 10-15 footer with ease. He wasn't a shot blocker but the Bulls had incredible defence. And let's not forget he has 3 rings.

Hell, even Andrew Gaze has one ring, although he hardly came out of the Spurs bench.

One should only trash talk when one can back it up and Andrew Bogut is either really good or really stupid. Two weeks ago he mad some remarks about Kobe Bryant and its going to be a sure bet that Kobe is going to dunk on him and they are going to make a poster out of it.

Personally I can't wait for the start of the NBA season.

Someone once said that the definition of Michael Jordan is God coming down to earth to play bball. Well that's if God came down to earth in the body of 6-6 supremely fit athelete. If God came down to earth in the body of a 6-3 white dude who can't jump and isn't very fast, he would be Steve Nash.

Steve Nash is God to all those basketballers who are not atheletic enough. He is the only other point guard in the NBA besides Jason Kidd who looks to pass first instead of shooting at every single opportunity. Nothing pisses me off than PGs who dun pass/ dun seem to realise that their teammates are open. Bball is a team sport. When the rest of the team is not involved, there is no team. Helping ppl score makes them work harder in defence and hustle more. It makes the defence move and tells them that everyone is a threat on offence. When a PG keeps taking shots just needs to concentrate on rebounding to take the rest of the team our of the game.

Steve Nash more than just passes, he makes passes where the route is only open for a split second. When I see other teams screen n roll, I suddenly see a pass that only Nash would have seen and made. Nash and Stoudamire have made Malone and Stockton obsolete. I mean all of Stoudamire's points are dunks/layups/freethrows from Nash's pass. They make it look to easy that its hard to get entertained by other teams, except for Spurs with Ginobili.

Because he's s good with passing, it makes to so hard for the opposition to defend everytime he drives into the paint. The switch is not fast enough to cover Stoudamie. If they double team Amare, Nash just shoots the 10-15 footer which he makes like 70%. Or he can drive and dish to any of the 3 point shooters waiting on the outside. Its the most entertaining offence in the NBA because everyone is involved. Every dribble is testing the opposition's defence looking for a pass.

Jordan is the best player ever but he only won championships after they got the right pieces to help him and they had Phil Jackson to piece everything together (and teach Mike to pass more). Nash makes everyone so much better and is the general of Phoenix offence.

The final proof that Steve Nash is God is that if he keeps a moustache and beard and does not cut his hair, he would looks like somone who was born in Bethlehem 2005 years ago.
