You should only watch Tokyo Tarareba Musume if.....

1) You can believe that Yoshitaka Yuriko, Eikura Nana and Oshima Yuko are 30 something girls. (All 3 are not even 30 and non of them look older than 25.)

2) You can believe your average Japanese guy would choose generic looking girls in their early 20s over them.

3) You find watching 30 year old women in love with love drinking getting neurotic together a funny thing.

4) You find adult women acting like schoolgirls in front of ikemen with entertaining.

5) You are a diehard Yoshitaka Yuriko fan. (I like her but even I got my limits, which is 2 episodes)

Well, I like Yuriko so it's my guilty pleasure. There seems to be a growing trend of actresses playing characters several years older than themselves: Nao Matsushita (30) played 34, Haru (24) played a forensic doctor, Mano Erina (25) played 28, Erika Toda (27 at the time) played a high-ranked business executive women and way too many early 20-something airheads played police officers, detectives doctors etc.

I watch it after a hard day's work and scoff at it for a good 5 minutes before I realize that I want my 5 minutes back.

I'm enjoying the show. But I answered yes to most of your questions. And those glasses make Yuko Oshima look easily in her 30's to me.

In terms of casting, it's better than Totsuzen desu ga, which is supposed to have women in their 30s. Nishiuchi Mariya is no where near 30, unlike these ladies, who are all 28-29 at least.

Or Code Blue, which had a bunch of doctors in their early 20s. (I have to admit that Code Blue is my guilty pleasure so to speak, the acting of the main characters is terrible, but the stories are so interesting, and you know I'm really story driven.)
