Looking at Spring 2014 jdoramas

JDORAMAS THAT SHOULD BE SUBBED
--------------------------------------------------

MOSAIC JAPAN

SAKAMOTO YUJI + WOWOW + adult videos? WTF????!!!!! I must be hallucinating!!! Never in a million years could I have thought of such a combination. OMFG. Screw Mozu, this is must watch dorama of the year!!!! My mind is blown! And its rated R15+!!!!!!!!! Thank you jdorama gods!!!!!!!!!! Me so happy!

MOZU

Ep 1 is available for download now!!!!!!!

ALICE NO TOGE

+ Ueno Juri!!!!
+ Who killed my daddy mystery.
+ Trailer looks good.

GOKUAKU GANBO

Ono Machiko with a lot of supporting players . The writer, Izumi Yoshihiro's past works doesn't fill me with confidence but its based on a manga and I just hope its a funny one.

BLACK PRESIDENT

Main reason this should be subbed is that Ozaki Masaya is writing it. I didn't watch Doubles (no idea how good he is as a cop show writer) but if anyone can pull off a comedy about management, its him.

KOHIYA NO HITOBITO

+ Salaryman Kintaro as a coffee maker with a past.
+ Kimura Tae + Kurashina Kana
+ Trailer looks really good though it kinda spoils the plot too much.

WATASHI TO IU UNMEI TSUITE

A WOWOW dorama that's not about a cover up? Must at least give this a try. Looks like 3 episodes are already up!

ROOSEVELT GAME

Plot sounds complicated and that's a good thing!

LONG GOODBYE

NHK 1950s dorama based on a famous novel.

TOKUSOU

WOWOW bribery investigation dorama. Yes, please.

JDORAMAS I'M ON THE FENCE ABOUT
--------------------------------------------------

SAIGO KARA NIBANME NO KOI 2

+ Koizumi Kyoko and Nakai Kiichi are always fun to watch
- Is there any more story left to tell?

BORDER

+ Oguri Shun sees dead people.
- The writer of SP
+ Episode 2 trailer looks interesting.

PLATONIC

+ Nojima Shinji !!!!!
+ Nakayama Miho !!!!!!
- Kinki Kid. Why did they cast him? Why?????!!!!!!

SILENT POOR

+ A show about social worker.
- Social worker is being played by Fukada Kyoko.
+ Its NHK so might be good.
- Its probably going to oversentimental mush.
+ Tokkan is in it.

YOWAKU DEMO KATEMASU

+ Nino can act.
+ Hard to go wrong with underdog sports story.
- Lots of johnnys.
As as they don't cry as much as Rookies, might be watchable.

JDORAMAS THAT SHOULD NOT BE SUBBED (but probably will)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

FIRST CLASS

+ Eye candy cast.
- Cast lacking in acting ability.

SMOKING GUN

By the writer of Zettai Reido. Stay very far away.

BITTER BLOOD

Kenshin and Watabe Atsuro are father and son in the first division comedy. How old is Kenshin again and I thought first division are for like the top veteran cops. Is Kutsuna Shiori old enought to be playing a detective?

SHINIGAMI-KUN

WHITE LAB

The trailer doesn't look good. Not another anime murder investigation show. Its got Kitamura Kazuki, Tanihara Shosuke and Osugi Ren but I'm not even going to bother.

HANASAKI MAI DAMATTE INAI

Sounds like Hanzawa Naoki light. As long as the acting is better (which shouldn't be too hard), might be watchable but too many potentially good shows this season.

You definitely have me intrigued about Mosaic Japan! And now I know Platonic is written by Nojima Shinji I will have to check that out. Overall, this season is looking MUCH better than Winter! Quite a few promising ones on that list.

There is one I think you missed though: River's Edge Ookawabata Tanteisha. It's written and directed by One Hitoshi (screenwriter & director of Moteki and Mahoro Ekimae Bangaichi!). Should be good.

Oh, yeah...I can't get over the Mosaic thing (subtle title, huh?).

Long Goodbye is the great hope for me. If Asano Tadanobu and co. can channel the great Raymond Chandler, I will be in heaven. River's Edge has my full attention, as well.

The ensemble cast of Mozu holds great promise.

And please don't laugh, but I'm hoping someone somewhere will upload that dorama about the plant-obsessed guy with a veranda, Shokubutsu Danshi - Berandar!. The lead has a funny-looking kisser, what can I say?

Hahahaha your description of Mosaic. Not starting until the 18th of May though. :(

This season is looking really great.

Like Shane I also caught River's Edge, seems fascinating.

Those that I'm looking forward to the most: Black President (screenwriter of Kekkon Dekinai Otoko! YES!), Mozu, Platonic and maybe Yowaku. Also on the fence about Saigo Kara 2... a little worried about that, although I know the screenwriter does some brilliant things.

This season is gonna be so good!! Too bad I'm stuck writing a dissertation and looking for a job.

Good hopes for this season! Last season had only one series that I really liked: Fukuie Keibuho no Aisatsu. Although a total Columbo rip off, The eps had a fairly intelligent plot and Dan Rei was really nice in her role as Fukuie san. It was also the first time after University of Laughs, that I saw Inagaki Goro showing acting chops. His erupting in anger at one point was a true gem.
I'm very happy to see Sakamoto Yuji and One Hitoshi on the list again. AND Ueno Juri is back in doramaland after 3 years. Although I still consider her a huge talent, the screenwriters for Alice no Toge are resposible for some pretty weak drama's... We’ll have to wait and see, but I am excited about the many promising drama’s. They can’t all go wrong : )

Alice no Toge: eye shadow, lots of eye shadow.

Glad to see Sakamoto, WOWOW, and Eita's little bro bundled together in a show. Totally all for it. Other shows I look forward to are River's Edge (because of Hitoshi Ohne), Ueno's drama, and Gin Nikan (perhaps the most underrated show this season). Anyway, this season is exciting, much better than the last 4 seasons

Shane, talks for bringing up River's Edge.

Antspace: I didn't give Fukuie Keibuho a try cause of Goro but if he can act like University of Laughs, then I'll give it a go (if I can find time).

The writer's for Alice no Toge have bad track records. Its probably going to end up being a wannabe dark mystery where everyone has an over-sentimentalised excuse/back story.

lontong.stroong, Gin Nikan sound like an Edo merchant dorama. Too many shows this season.....

Gokuaku Ganbo ep. 1 was a blast! Manic situational comedy (with a touch of dread) at its best. Ono Machiko owns the lead - the woman can no wrong as far as I am concerned, and the ensemble cast doesn't let her down (actually they do let her down - a lot - but that's all part of the plot;)).
It's also a real treat to see Kudokan on the screen as a supporting character.
Please let this dorama be subbed, o ye gods, please....

Aah so good!
I totally didnt know Sakamoto-san had a new series coming up and for WOWOW? Isn't that like unprecedented?
I think I get what they mean by that title, oooh. Very adult, premise might be too venturesome for someone as "innocent" as I, hehe.... But I'll freakin' check it out if it kills me.

But Mozu is the one for me this season. Waiting on Eng Subs - or are they out yet?
*Damn laptop - be fixed soon.*

Glad Shane pointed out River's Edge. It sounds like it'll be multiple ways of winsome - without even trying.
But still, Mozu!
