Ohyama Yurika - Kind of Blue

Best album of the year. To be fair, I haven't been listening to many albums, mostly singles. However, I've been listening to Kind of Blue everyday for the past month and I've yet to get bored. If you haven't heard of her, its because she's not a jpop idol but rather a folk song singer. My exposure to Japanese Okinawa folk music has been limited to Begin, Natsukawa Rimi and of course Hello Project's Folk song series.

Generally they're like most of Kiroro's songs. Easy listening, catchy but you can't listen to them for long. Somehow I find myself addicted to Ohyama Yurika. Yes, its only been a month but goddamit, the most of the songs are fucking excellent and varied.

The best song is Chiisana Koi no Uta. It has a quick beat, very catchy and shows her singing range well. Good song for walking to work in the morning. Big thanks to Yui-Tokyo on jpopmusic for uploading the album. Special mention for the song Erabu no Komoriuta. I just love this line: 'Saiki no kodomo no dejinadon, anime mita sugu famicom.' Kinda describes my life. :)

Unfortunately the mediafire link for the album has been deleted but I highly recommend getting it if you can find the album. You can get the PV for Chisana Koi no Uta from http://ladyteruki.free.fr/.

My favorite PV is Fujiki Naohito's HEY HEY FRIENDS. The song's average, but I watch it for the girls.

Just watched her PV for "Sayonara"... didn't expect to see Erika Toda in the PV. ^o^

I was expecting Yurika's voice to be more "jpoppy", but she's much more natural. Nice. ^^

And, there's just something about those Okinawan girls!

I was talking to a Japanese friend, and she said that this version of Chiisana Koi no Uta was a cover of an older song by a group called MONGOL800.

Very popular karaoke song!

Thanks for the link! Love the original version. Do you know where to get the sayonara PV besides jpopsuki which has no seeders?

(At first I just thought it was just an information site or something.)

i got her album from jpopmusic, too, and after listening to 30-sec. previews, i tried to buy the album when i went to Taiwan a couple of weeks ago.

no one there knew who she was. XD but i kinda expected it.

anyways, currently listening to the full album for the first time. ^^

in the album credits (according to cherryblossom-garden.com), it says that [chiisana koi no uta]'s lyrics are by Uezu Kiyosaku and music is by Mongol800.

and maybe [anata ni] is a cover also, as it says the music was written by Mongol 800, too.

and according to Yurika's official blog, she's just finished recording her 5th single!!

Woah, I'd love a rock version of Anata ni!
