Saint Young Men jmovie review

I think I've seen a bit of the Saint Young Men anime. It was an ok anime based on a manga about Buddha and Jesus having a vacation in Japan and living the slow life.

For some reason, someone decided to make a live action version because it doesn't cost anything to shot as 99% of it is set in a small Japanese apartment. I am pretty sure the risk reward of this movie is very, very low.

I like the casting and it really looked like the anime but Saint Young Men is something to be taken in small doses and not 2 hours straight.

Its just a bunch of skits without a main story to connect them all and its very hit or miss so I pretty much got bored at the halfway mark.

Never should have been made into a movie in the first place. Avoid. Watch the anime and not in one go.

Hakuoki Episodes 1-6

Its been a while since I've watched a jidaigeki. Not counting Neko Samurai which I would not count as jidaigeki, the last one I enjoyed was Yoshiwara Urodoushin by the great Ozaki Masaya.

Hakuoki is a feel good adventure story about a married couple played by Yamamoto Koji and Shibamoto Yuki fate seems to want to keep separate by visiting them various hardships while the viewers of course want to see them together.

I love rooting for the underdogs and I love the Edo period setting and politics where drawing one's sword against the wrong person can mean the end of your family. I could not believe the ending of episode one and how difficult it was for justice to be done in those days.

Love the actors, especially Yamamoto Koji who played Hijikata in Shinsengumi all those years ago.

If you like movies like Twilight Samurai about underdog samurais/ronin, Hakuoki is for you. I'm enjoying every episode. Very watchable. The raws can easily be gotten from raredoramas and the subs by evasive at d-addicts. I fee like watching more jidaigeki after this.

Kore wa Keihi de Ochimasen Episodes 7-10

I just want to say two things. Firstly, to declare that Kore wa Keihi de Ochimasen is a must watch workplace jdorama comedy that is very well written and acted and runs rings around Douki no Sakura.

Secondly is that if you got the raws from nyaa by searching for これは経費で落ちません!, you'll have to retime the subs for episode 7 using aegisub. I can't remember how forward I had to move it, was it 40 seconds?

Love this show, love the characters and they are a fun group of people that I would love to work with.

I love how the supporting characters all come back for the final few episodes.

Must watch especially if you are after a feel good workplace dorama and one of the best jdoramas of 2019.

Kore wa Keihi de Ochimasen! Episode 6

What a good episode. First off is Noguchi Noriko's annoying character Asabuki Mika who loves speaking English, will find fault and question everything and loves chasing the rabbit more than Tabe Mikako.

I was thinking how annoying  Noguchi Noriko's character was until Becky's character appeared. Becky's character is a serial complainer that everyone including management doesn't want to touch because she just complains about everything so she gets to do whatever she wants.

Let's just say I know the Becky type and they finally got rid of her at my workplace. Its frustrating to see serial complainers get what they want because managers find it easier just to give in. Interestingly enough Becky's character is implied to have had an affair.

I'm loving Kore wa Keihi de Ochimasen because its all real life workplace stuff done as a comedy. I remember reading Dilbert as a kid and thinking what's so interesting about it and now its like funny comic which is also horrifying.

Love the acting by Eguchi Noriko and Becky in this episode. Especially Becky. She knows her character is there to be hated and she makes it work especially the crazy make up. Hopefully Becky stays on the series because a hero is not as interesting without a villain.

I had to write something about episode 6 before I continue watching. Loving this show so much. Not ready to give it must watch just yet but if the quality keeps up, I just might have to.

Shiyakusho Eps 9+10

Aarrrrrgghh! I want season 2 to start right now! The last two episodes answered just enough questions to make watching the 10 episodes worth it but left even more questions that I desperately need to know.

Should I try reading the manga? I'm still halfway reading Dragon Quest Dai no Bouken in Japanese which will take me a very long time to complete and I don't want to get distracted.

I've come to like all the characters and the supporting characters that have showed up in season 1. Shiyakusho is a great example of a high concept dorama with no budget that has great writing and manages to use the concept to give an interesting twist to the usual jdorama stories.

Thanks to Hpriest for subbing and I recommend everyone check it out. Very, very watchable.
