From Nakai Kiichi's great acting in Karei Naru Ichizoku, we have this 1999 jdorama where Nakai Kiichi does his best to looks completely bored and no sell everything as a psychology professor who gets involved with Inamori Izumi (Iryu's Kato sensei) who plays a model who loses one of her breasts due to breast cancer.
Semi-Double is one of the most stilted jdoramas I have ever seen, not just from the acting but also from the dialogue. Because Nakai Kiichi's character is trying to hard to be cool and doesn't speak, everyone else is saddled with super heavy exposition dialogue that is unnatural.
Everything is pure cringe from Mr try too hard to be cool to Kato sensei falling down everytime.
I tried watching for 4 episodes for 3 reasons; Tsunku, the Ayu and Tsunku song Love Since 1999 and nothing says the 90s like Vivian Hsu.
Besides that, there is nothing here for fans of 90s jdoramas except to see how bad they can get.
Do not watch, unless you are a Vivian Hsu diehard.
