Someone wrote that there are a lot of comments saying BG2 is better than 1. While by no means was BG1 Gaiji Keisatsu, it was the first decent Kimitaku dorama in a long while and I wanted to see whether BG2 is actually better. The answer is yes and no.
Yes, because BG2 takes KimuTaku's character and rebuilds him by making his character resign from the VIP only bodyguard agency and making him take on everyday and problem clients. Not only does his character go back to basics but he is also an underdog.
I also enjoyed KimuTaku and Saito Takumi's chemistry. Nanao and the other guy are freaking useless and are correctly relegated to as little screen time as possible.
Unfortunately, BG2 is not better than BG1 because the story about the new owner of Kimutaku's bodyguard company played by Nakamura Toru is all over the place especially with his motivations. In doesn't help that covid forced the series to cut down to 7 episodes but a lot of what his character says and does, does not make sense.
I enjoyed the long building story about Ishida Yuriko in BG1 but while the individual stories in BG2 are arguably better the main story is not.
If you did not mind BG1, then go ahead and watch BG2 with realistic expectations and we will be fine. If you did not like BG1, BG2 is not that much better to change your mind. I got the raws and subs from avistaz and I don't think subs are out on d-addicts. Watchable.
Grand Maison Tokyo isn't bad too
