Dakara Watashi wa Oshimashita is about an OL Mana, who seemingly had it all who was dumped by her boyfriend because he felt that she was only using him to get likes on instagram.
Mana loses her phone and somehow ends up at an underground idoru event for Sunny Side Up where she vents her anger against Hana-chan, the worst member of the group. Mana goes back to apologies and finds herself slowly becoming an idoru otaku.
First thing you notice with Dakara Watashi wa Oshimashita is that its not your typical bright light idoru story. Mana starts off the story being interrogated at a police station and we know something bad has happened while the series goes back in time to show us the events leading up to the police station.
I like the series, more real tone and episode 2 shows the dark side of idorus; the fan possessiveness and treating the girls like their girlfriend. Not to mention how little money underground idorus make and their reliance on handshake and photo events to make money.
The third episode was about being an otaku in today's world there were plenty of cringeworthy (in a good way) moments. Such a good episode.
The acting by Sakurai Yuki as Mana and Shiraishi Sei as Hana-chan are excellent. Sakurai Yuki was the Judge's assistant in Saka no Tochu no Ie and Shiraishi Sei was of course in I"s. Both of them are definitely in my good actresses list.
I've very much enjoyed the 3 episodes. I would like to finish Dakara Watashi wa Oshimashita in one go but I've got Sekiro to play. Very watchable.

Hi Akiramike, haven't you check out new movie from Tetsuya Nakashima, Kuru (It Comes)? I didn't know Tetsuya Nakashima makes new movie, I just found the raw. With stellar cast, I hope this movie will be great, and based of the review, I have high hopes.
Can you recommend any other dramas (or movies) that touch upon the idol scene in a realistic behind-the-scenes way like this?

@Robert Pure! SP, Gokudols
not realistic but satire on idols.
maybe the AKB unranked member documentary is also woth to check
Shiraishi Sei was also stunning in Zettai Seigi and Prince of Legend (it was dumb but I enjoyed the hell of it).
@Faiz Ikari : No I have not. I believe the new raw have Chinese hardsubs which I would prefer to avoid if possible, Will keep on eye out.
@Robert : Can't think of any other idol shows showing how idols sell physical contact and manage promote this pseudo girlfriend arrangement.
@Anon Thank you I will check out your suggestions.
I just watched the documentary Tokyo Idols which presents a rather negative view of the idol phonomenon and the otakus who support it. Worth watching of you liked this drama.

Gonna answer my own question from above and add Idol Shikkaku to the suggestions here. It's pretty low-key and doesn't have the most dramatic or compelling storyline but is a decent watch for anyone interested in stories about idols.
@Robert: You just reminded me I download the first two episodes of Idol Shikkaku and have not watched them.
